On the first visit, a biomechanical and gait analysis will be done. This includes a weight bearing and non-weight bearing assessment of the foot, and a gait analysis. At this point an explanation on how orthotics can help (if appropriate) and what type would be good for the patient will occur.

If orthotics are decided upon, then a plaster cast will be made of both feet while the patient is in a non-weight bearing position. The cast will be sent off to a lab where a custom orthotic will be produced to the specifications of the individual patient.

Orthotics can fit in many types of footwear. They include: running shoes, casual shoes, dress shoes, boots, safety boots, athletic footwear (ex. ski boots, skates), etc.
