Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine is a form of primary health care that uses natural therapies to promote health and treat disease. As primary health care providers, Naturopathic Doctors are trained in physical and laboratory diagnostics and are trained to provide first contact health services.
Naturopathic Doctors look at each person as an integrative whole, not seeing the person as a set of physical symptoms or as a disease. We look at all aspects of the individual, considering the mental, emotional, social, and environmental aspects to see how each impacts on a person’s health.
Patient education is a vital part of Naturopathic practice, because it leads to good health. In helping patients to better understand their conditions and the available treatment options, Naturopathic Doctors enable their patients to take an active role in their health. Patient education is also a key to prevention. Using simple manageable steps, Naturopathic Doctors can help to reduce the risk of future illness and injuries without further adding to the stress of everyday life.
Naturopathic Therapies
Treatments practiced by the Naturopathic Doctors (ND) at the Rosedale Natural Health Clinic integrate scientific research with traditional healing methods in order to promote health and treat disease. They can be used effectively on their own or in order to complement conventional medicine.
- Clinical Nutrition: Promotion of health and treatment of disease through diet and nutritional supplementation.
- Lifestyle Counseling: Working with patients to address all determinants of health, whether they be biological, psychological or social.
- Asian Medicine: Harmonizing of the body’s or vital force through acupuncture, plant-based remedies and nutrition that is based on traditional Asian philosophy.
- Acupuncture: Ancient method of balancing the body’s or vital force by direct stimulation of meridian points with fine sterile needles.
- Botanical Medicine: Plants and their extracts are used to promote health and alleviate disease.
- Homeopathy: An energetic form of medicine based on the natural law of “like cures like”. All remedies are created from natural substances and individually tailored to stimulate the body’s power to heal.
- Physical Medicine: A variety of gentle, hands-on techniques used to adjust muscles and joints to improve posture and relieve pain.
